MediCycle

FAQs

Are dietary supplements and vitamins considered pharmaceutical waste?

No. Vitamins and dietary supplements are excluded and should neither be declared nor disposed of in the designated MediCycle bins.

When should declarations be submitted?

According to Article 4.01 of the Member Accession Agreement, all declarations must be submitted 15 days after the end of each quarter.

Should the declared quantities reflect imports or sales?

Only the quantities initially sold by the first importer must be declared.

Why is a product-by-product declaration required if the fee is the same for all?

MediCycle is required by its license to submit annual reports to the government with quantities per pharmaceutical product type sold on the Cypriot market.

Do specialized hospital-use medicines need to be declared?

No. MediCycle’s license does not cover pharmaceutical waste from specialized medicines dispensed exclusively by hospital pharmacies.

Can I dispose of non-expired household medicines in the bins?

Yes. You may dispose of expired, unused, or long-stored household medicines, even if they haven’t expired.

Should I dispose of the medicine packaging too?

No. Do not dispose of outer packaging with the medicine. For example, cardboard boxes from blister packs or syrups should be recycled separately.

What should I do with used aluminum ointment tubes?

Dispose of them in MediCycle bins. As they contain residue, they are incinerated in full and not recycled with PMD.

Can glass syrup bottles be recycled with other glass containers?

No. Glass bottles containing syrup should go in the MediCycle bins, not with regular glass recycling, due to contamination risks and potential environmental harm.
